Corndogs. Corndogs. Corndogs.

My kid only likes corndogs and ketchup.

I try new foods and he hates everything (except sweet things, of course). He even hates pickles. Who hates pickles?!? He used to love veggies.... now that's a thing of the past. At least sometimes I feed him veggie corndogs.

UGH.
Frustrated.

Just so y'all don't think I'm the worst mother ever...

So, I took a pic from where we sit at storytime and you can see how easy it was to lose Austin! The bottom is crowded (but not too crowded that I was worried to let Austin crawl down these steps ahead of me). He just weaved in between a couple of people and POOF disappeared! There's 2 ways out of the theater... I just happened to go the opposite way he did. Ugh. Still terrifying, but you can see I'm not totally irresponsible, right? Oh wait... there is the iron incident. damn.

It's been a rough week!!!

Oh man. It's been a ROUGH week for Austin! ready for this? hold on...

First, he got the flu for the first time. Not too bad, but just hasn't felt great for an entire week. Last Friday he had diarrhea, but he acted fine so Ryan dropped him off at Belinda's. As soon as he handed him over, he puked ALL OVER her face! I'm not exaggerating here. When I asked her about this, she said that while she has been puked on countless times over the years, this is the very first time it's been all over her face. She said that Austin owes her. Big time. ha!

So, he continued to have diarrhea for the next couple of days and got diaper rash. No bueno. A sore bum is worse than throwing up!

He then went to daycare again earlier in the week and puked again, except this time it was all over Ryan's freshly dry cleaned jacket and Belinda's floor. Awesome.

On Sunday I got up with Austin and was laying in his room on his floor as he played and hear he was taking a dump. And I could tell it was another wet one. yuck. I just figured I'd let him finish his business and change him immediately because of the diaper rash, but apparently this was not soon enough because as soon as I thought he was done, I sat up and there was crap all over his room. His diaper had leaked in a BIG way. And he had blueberries the night before, so it was a purple poopy party all over. nice.

I stripped him down and ran him to the tub, which consequently, got purple poopy all over mommy too. meh. The joys of motherhood. ha!

So I spray him down (which he hated on his little red bum!) and then dry him off and don't put a diaper back on, because it's best to "air out" a diaper rash, so I'm told. I figured, he just had a big poop.... he's good for another 20 minutes, so I go to fix a bottle and whatdoyaknow.... SPLAT!!! Purple poopy all over my floor, all over the wall, all over the door and a little on the carpet. So at this point, his room is a shitty mess... yes, I will call it shitty now because it's no longer remotely funny at this point.... and now the bathroom is a shitty mess. LOL!

Well, I promptly diaper my little dirty dude (after spraying him down again) and give him a bottle as I clean up. I then lay down with him as he's finishing his bottle and as soon as he's done, he sits straight up and pukes all over me. Lovely. So... at this point, all I can smell in my house is poop and puke.

Anyway, funny thing- I met a girlfriend later that day and told her this story, then asked how she was doing and her reply? I'm pregnant.....Oui!!!!! ha! Pretty funny though that I had just told he this horror story and probably smelled a bit (yes, I did not shower before I met her... sue me).

Oh what else.... I brought Austin to my office for about an hour last week and he learned to open my big heavy door to my office and then slammed his fingers in it. So he has purple poop and a purple finger nail. Poor dude.

Oh don't worry... there's more.

I lost Austin at storytime.

Yep. Mom of the Year Award right here.

I honestly don't know how it happened and it was the worst 2 minutes of my motherhood so far. Seriously. So, I go to storytime on Saturdays with a girlfriend and her little girl. It's in the cutest children's theater with stadium seating. We like to sit near the top. When story time is done, everyone lines up to go into the children's library and the lady who does storytime gives all the little ones a stamp. Well, the line can get quite long and there are a lot of people (grown ups and kiddos) down at the bottom of the theater waiting in this line. Austin and Belle went down the steps and got to the bottom and I had my eye on him as he went down the last step about 20 feet away from me, I looked away to grab my bag behind me (literally 1 second.. no joke) and he was gone. There were a bunch of people, so I couldn't see which direction he had gone. I panicked BIG TIME. Searched and searched and couldn't find him, so I yelled back at my friend and she ran down to help me. I ran out of the theater and back in and begged people around me to look for a little boy in striped shirt. At that time EVERY little kid on a striped shirt!!! Seriously! How does that happen!??!?! I ran out of the theater again to see if he had possibly gotten all the way out of the library. I ran back to the children's library and there was my friend sitting with Austin. She had been with him the entire time!!!! While I was a crazy woman running out of the library, she went the direction of the stamp lady. Of course. Belle and Austin wanted their stamps. Regardless, it was terrifying.

Oh and ready for terrible mommy story part deux? or is this part trois because of the finger incident? ugh. I've lost track. I want to preface this by saying this is something I've literally NEVER done. Ever. I ironed my skirt yesterday morning before work on the ground (running so late - I don't do this either!) and I left the house yesterday with the iron on. Yep. STUPID. The kitty could have knocked it over and burned down our entire house. anyway, we get home and Austin runs into his room to turn on the light and sees something new there and tries to pick it up. Yep. Hot iron. Seriously. I couldn't believe it. It started to blister soon afterwards and he cried off and on all night about it. SUCH mommy guilt. Like, the worst ever. I cried too. :(

And so, that was our week! Poor little man.

Go Broncos!!!!

Great season, Broncs! SO much better than anyone would have hoped for.... ! I have officially started praying to Tebow, as he may be the next messiah.

And although the Broncos put up a hell of a fight this season, this is how Austin felt at halftime against the Pats tonight:

Can't wait for next year!

Petting Zoo

I took Austin to Zoomar's petting zoo in San Juan Capistrano this past weekend and he had a GREAT time. I wasn't sure if he'd be too young, but it was only $6, so decided to go wear him out before his nap. We will definitely be going back!

Here's Austin in the bunny/guinea pig cage:

I think the bunny jumped up and "kissed" him in this pic :)

Biggest Bunny in the World!!

They had a corn sandbox

which Austin had a blast in!

Feeding the goats!!

Whatcha got there??

ummmm..... if he wasn't a baby, this pic would worry me. ha!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

One of my resolutions is to get back into blogging. Now that I'm settling into my new position, this should be easier :)

In the past couple of months, I feel like Austin really is no longer a "baby" but a little boy. He just melts me!

It's strange to now be able to ask him a question and he understands some of the time- He's even started to respond when it's a 'yes or no' question! So exciting! When the answer is 'yes' he says 'uh' (I think he's trying to say 'yea'- which is what I say, but I'm trying more and more to use the proper 'yes' around him instead of being lazy and saying 'yea'). I've tried this several times, with the same result when he wants something and 'uh' is definitely his response for 'yes'. Also, although we thought that he said 'no' months ago, he stopped saying it. Thank god. ha! I love it! Instead of him screaming 'NO' (which I'm sure will come!), he just shakes his head 'no' in response- I'm so impressed with this!

I'm also really trying to reiterate 'please', 'thank you' and 'you're welcome'. I know it'll be awhile until he starts saying these, but it's important to start now. I really want him to be a polite little guy with good manners!!!

On that note though... man he's impatient! Just like his mama. I think that I must say, 'be patience Austin' about 25 times per day.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but he's a monkey. He loves climbing on everything... including getting up on Belinda's kitchen table and coffee table. We are working on correcting this. He knows he is not supposed to stand on the couch, but I catch him to see if I'm not looking and then he stands up. what a stinker! He's getting better though.

Lastly, Austin is becoming a PICKY eater. I'm frustrated, but I think it's just a phase. He is NOT a fan of meat, unless it comes in the form of a corn dog (his newest favorite). I have resorted to mixing chicken nuggets in mac and cheese. The other night, when we were hanging with Autumn and Sienna, he LOVED a taquito Sienna shared with him... so I bought a box and now he hates them. He loves cottage cheese still (just like his momma) and fruit, but now isn't a huge fan of veggies (and he used to love them). I'm trying. It's frustrating. I'm sure it will get better because neither Ryan or I are picky eaters.

A couple more fun things:
  • Austin got his first haircut... buh-bye baby mullet!!! Pictures to come.
  • Austin LOVES the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse- I can now recite the entire theme song ("Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog!") and mouse-ka-tools call ("Oh Toodles!")... unfortunately, I know this is just the beginning of him watching something over and over and over and over! ha!
  • Austin has really started to 'dance' when music comes on... it's so cute
  • Austin taps his feet really fast when we say, 'happy feet!'
  • Austin also spins in circles and then falls down. He thinks he is hysterically funny. And he is.
That's about it!

Dear Austin,

I have loved watching you grow into a little boy this past year- from sitting, to rolling over, to crawling, to walking and now running!! You have developed the sweetest personality- such a little love bug and mommy LOVES to cuddle with you. You are the best cuddler around. Period. There is no one better. Oh and that SMILE- it's the BEST thing in the world and absolutely warms my heart.

I have to say, you've also got a little fire in you too- That's definitely the "Stewart" in you, which I love!! You are independent and like to play by yourself, but also social and like to play with others.

Oh Austin, 2011 was quite a hectic year for us! There was a lot going on in your first year and you were a trooper. Such a good little guy and so easygoing. I enjoyed every second we were together, truly. Every second. You don't know it, but you gave mommy strength. I cannot wait to see what 2012 has in store for us! It's impossible to imagine what you will be like this time next year- you'll really be a little boy and be talking by then! Geesh. We'll take time to enjoy today though and all of the new things you discover each day- every day is an adventure with you and it's the greatest thing in the world. You are such a blessing and make both me and your daddy so happy.

We love you with all of our hearts.

Mommy
